Product Highlights
The 2023 St John’s Road Blood & Courage Reserve Shiraz is built from just eight barrels - the absolute best of the vintage - matured for 18 months in the finest new French oak barriques. Only the top fruit makes it in. Only the best hands touch it.
Who are those hands? A dream team of Barossa winemaking talent.
Leading the charge is young-gun winemaker Luke Broadbent, guided by two legends: Andrew “Ox” Hardy, winner of trophies including Australia’s Best Red Wine and World’s Best Cabernet, and Keeda Zilm, custodian of the techniques of the late John Vickery - often hailed as one of Australia’s greatest white winemakers.
This is the 1% club. The elite of the elite. Like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Le Bron James all turned their attention to winemaking, working with the very best vineyards other winemakers wish they had access to.
There’s no question this is Barossa from the very top shelf. Full of mulberries, baking spice, classic Barossan cocoa, with plenty of depth. But it feels tighter and more deliberate than a lot of big commercial Barossa reds floating around at this price. There’s finesse, there’s freshness, and it carries all that flavour without needing to blow out to 15% alcohol.
Honestly, this is one of the best Shiraz deals we’ve seen at this price point.
Or frankly, a lot of wines at the original price point too.
There are not many old vine reserve Barossa Shiraz offers left that still feel like genuine finds. This one does.
