Pet Nat Wines

Pet Nat wine (short for Pétillant Naturel), which translates loosely to a French term meaning "naturally sparkling”. This varietal is the latest thing in natural wines and is perfect for summer drinking.

What is Pet Nat wine?

It's a sparkling white or rose wine, unfiltered, and low in alcohol and sugar content. Made in a similar way to Champagne, but without the use of added sulphites (a chemical used in wine-making). Natural wine is made with minimal intervention from the winemaker and is typically made with grapes that were harvested early. They have higher acidity and are often lower in alcohol than traditional sparkling wines.

Pet Nat wines originated in France in the 1970s as an alternative to traditional sparkling wines. This wine became popular when people started to care about what went into their food and drink—and pet nat wines are all about purity and simplicity. Nowadays, Pet Nat has become even more popular than ever thanks to its low alcohol content.

What does Pet Nat Taste Like?

When describing what Pet Nat Wine tastes like, it’s hard to narrow it down as this type of wine refers to the winemaking technique alone. For example, some wines have to be made from a certain region, such as sparkling wine can only be called Champagne if it comes from the region of Champagne, France.

Pet Nat, on the other hand, is free from restrictions and winemakers are not limited to what grape they use. All and all, the one thing this wine will share in characteristics among all the varieties is that you will find it refreshing, with a gentle fizz and fruit-forward taste.

What's the Difference Between Natural Wine and Chardonnay?

Natural wine is made with minimal intervention, so no added sulphites or chemicals. It's also fermented in wooden barrels and bottled unfiltered. Chardonnay is a white grape variety that originated in France. It's also the most planted grape in the world! The difference between natural wine and chardonnay is simple: one is a type of grape and one is a winemaking method.
