By far the most interesting, complex yet intrinsically pristine red from Pulenta. Floral, violet and lavender character on top of the fresh blueberry and blackberry fruit, with herbs, stems and a touch of pepper. Medium- to full-bodied with silky, fresh tannins from the fruit, delivering fluidity in its intense fruit profile. Long, resolved and very honest. Already delicious, but will hold well.

Probably the most serious but fruit-expressive and place-transparent wine from Pulenta in 2021. Subtle dark spices from the restrained use of oak that does not shade the fruit. Some sweet cherries, blackberries, graphite and herbs. Full-bodied and flavorful with fine, dusty tannins and a long, extensive finish.

Joaquin Hidalgo - Vinous

The 2021 Gran Malbec X comes from Los Árboles, Uco Valley. Sixty percent was aged 12 months in new French oak and the rest in second-use barrels. Sober and composed, it begins with ripe plum, cherry and balsamic herbs—jarilla, thyme—and a slightly expectorant lift. The palate is dry with fine tannins and a hint of grip. It is juicy yet restrained with well-defined flavor and a delicate trailing finish. A very good Malbec in a classic style.
