From a south-facing slope planted in 2002, with the Gingin clone sourced from Margaret River. These are exciting times at TarraWarra, with Sarah Fagan taking hold of the winemaking reins from '24. A touch richer than the new Swallowfield chardonnay. Attractive aromas of just-ripened apricots, white peach and lightly grilled cashew lead onto the gently textured, saline and beautifully balanced palate. I like the grip and intensity on the finish, too. While delicious now, this will continue to evolve and open up.

A well-crafted, bright and textured chardonnay with aromas of spiced apples, dried lemons and wild herbs. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity adding volume and energy to the long, flavorful finish.

I think that TarraWarra Estate is now simply called TarraWarra. And also that the wine previously known as South Block Chardonnay – here – is now called Southern Slope Vineyard. In any case, it’s a new era at TarraWarra. This is an understated chardonnay with citrus, nectarine and brine-like flavours edging gradually into grapefruit, custard powder and meal. It’s balanced, composed and neat, if still at this stage somewhat in its shell. Indeed – in something of a departure for TarraWarra – this wine is the epitome of elegance. Its cohesion game is strong too. For now though this wine’s best showings are ahead of it.
