It’s the dead of winter, my house is a construction site, running more than one appliance short circuits the power, and I cohabitate with a small family of possums. Honestly, I’m fine. Disclaimer: I’m not fine. So, when wines like this land on my desk, they are welcomed moments of reprieve. Clean, bright, and soul warming, its fruits are ripe with white nectarine, pears in juice and a gentle lean into tropical territory. The mid-palate balances a comforting fruit sweetness, coated with a clotted cream silkiness. Some savoury barrel ferment, a dusting of spice and cashew nougat on the finish makes for a slick, well positioned wine. A classic modern Australian expression, and a welcomed silver (golden) lining.

Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front

Subtitle is Wilyabrup. Margaret River chardonnay. Pears, apples, toffee and citrus. This is a fruity-and-fresh chardonnay with sweet, tinned pear flavours as the dominant driver and with a gentle steeliness to the finish. It’s uncomplicated but satisfying enough, courtesy of the fresh, juicy fruit.

Good density and texture, displaying mineral and stone fruit on the nose. Palate shows weight and grip, though flavour remains subtle, creating a composed, quietly structured wine with a plensent, citrus finish. Judges: Alex Hunt MW, Roger Jones, Beth Pearce MW
