2024 Quealy Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir

It’s a blend of the four vineyards that we manage on the Mornington Peninsula from 30 metres elevation with Campbell & Christine to the late ripening Halarah Vineyard at 180 metres. It’s a mixture of clones, and canopy technique. What binds our viticulture is a focus always on introducing sunshine, encouraging root development, and keeping the canopy small and energetic. A small canopy with a large root system intuitively nurtures natural acidity that is essential for wine health, and is so beautiful to taste. The tannins of the wine are sweet once again because of the sunshine and canopy shape. Because ripening Pinot Noir in our region is marginal, it is the variety where harmony from vineyard to winery is most evident.

The only blended Pinot in the Quealy range is drawn from all five of the estate’s premium vineyards, from the lower-lying Campbell & Christine to the late-ripening Musk Creek. Planted to different clones and with varying degrees of vine age, what binds these sites together is Quealy farming—led by viticulturist Will Byles, the estate manages every vine. All ferments were spontaneous and the fruit spent an average of 25 days on skins. The batches matured in older barrels for 15 months before assembling and bottling.
