Fermented with 30% whole bunches and matured in French oak barriques and puncheons. A beautiful, ethereal wine, fragrant and bursting with warm strawberries and vanilla sugar. There's a sophisticated overlay of crushed sage, flecks of pimento and pink peppercorn. The palate flows like silk, with purity of expression and remarkable clarity. It's svelte and delicate, with immense flavour and length. The acidity is ultra-fine, the tannins even finer.

This is a thoroughly beautiful Pinot Noir from Brokenwood’s Indigo Vineyard in Beechworth. It’s light-bodied and delicately fragrant, with a smoothly integrated palate built on graceful lines. The palate’s energy and freshness are features, while the balance of integrated oak is calculated and precise. The vibrant mix of sour cherry and raspberry brings a beautiful freshness. I love this style.

The 2024 Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir leads with spiced red cherry, sandalwood, anise and red apple skins. In the mouth, the fruit is intense, delicate and fresh, with silky tannins that stream over the tongue. A lovely wine here, it is delicate and pure. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

There’s quite a lot of oak evident in this wine and while the fruit itself is very good, so too the structure, so too the length of the finish, the volume of oak is difficult to steer past. Cedarwood and woodsmoke characters flow through sweet-sour cherry, the latter of both the red and black variety. Sweet, woodsy spice notes play a role too. There’s a prettiness to this wine, and excellent shape and mouthfeel. The oak influence though really does need time to settle.
