Product Highlights
One of the most idiosyncratic and captivating Grenaches produced in Australia, its levity and fragrance are unparalleled.
Swinney has rightfully attained a near-mythical status among critics, and with each passing year, the chorus grows louder:
"This might just be the best thing I’ve seen out of Western Australia." – Nick Ryan
"I feel like this is the best Grenache in Australia. World-class." – Erin Larkin
"A new benchmark." – Max Allen
In just a few short years, the Farvie range—crafted in infinitesimal volumes with meticulous care—has roared into contention as one of Australia's most elite wines. And leading the charge? The Grenache.
Sourced from bush vines on the Wilsons Pool section of Swinney’s famed vineyards, it underwent 28% whole-bunch fermentation before maturing in large French oak.
Expect a vibrant colour with violet hues, a nose of lavender and plum, and a palate that unfolds into a spicy summer pudding with fine, elegant tannins. It moves with the grace and lightness of a ballet dancer.
The 2023 release—as Matthew Jukes puts it in his near-perfect review—"defies comprehension." It’s one of those rare wines that takes you on a symphonic journey as it opens and evolves in the glass. One minute, it's an underdog, growling with dark and ominous intensity; the next, it turns sweet and sensual, weaving a vivid aromatic lullaby of fruit and nectar.
For those looking to evolve beyond the archetypal Australian red, this is the place to start.
