As good as the red Blagny is (very), this is even better. Leroux farms 1.7 hectares at the top of the slope, and here, he has vinified different sections of the vineyard in cask, large oak foudres, and glass wine globes. The blend of all three is lively and fresh, with an exceptional vibrancy on the palate but no lack of nutty Meursault charm and spice. Cellar this for five to seven years for best results and then enjoy over the next 20.

Has a lovely purity of ripe apple and apricot fruit aromas, with an edge of exotic spices and marzipan. The texture is gratifyingly rich but not heavy. Leroux, like many vignerons, has suffered vine failures linked to the rootstock here, and now this is a blend of Genevrières Dessous and Dessus – formerly they were bottled separately. It is still a magnificent wine. Cellar ideally for at least five years and enjoy it over the next 20.

Benjamin Leroux's 2023 Les Charmes Dessus is delightfully approachable, featuring aromas of ripe apple and quince, hints of butter and acacia flowers. The texture is dense, almost a bit fat, but it is underpinned by a minerality that brings freshness to the wine. The grapes are from a small parcel right next to the Clos des Perrières, thus the top of the vineyard; they are pressed gently as whole clusters, lightly settled and fermented in mostly used casks.

The 2023 Meursault Village comes from the five lieux-dits at the foot of the slope (as usual). There is a very slight reduction at play, with fine tension with light walnut scents. The palate is well balanced with a harmonious opening. Perhaps it just misses a bit of nerve, yet there is a lovely honey-tinged finish that is quite seductive. Points: 87-89
