Erin Larkin - Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2022 Single Vineyard Hua Nui Pinot Noir was handpicked, whole bunch pressed. Fifty percent of the cuvée is clone Abel, 34% 115 and 16% 667. It includes 33% whole bunches in the ferment and was bottled unfiltered. On the nose, this has a pronounced aroma of coffee grounds and star anise, cherry and sumac. In the mouth, the wine shows pert acidity that spirals through the fruit, and very fine tannins shape the flow of it through the finish. This is soft, pillowy drinking here, enlivened by the acidity, which is Pink Lady apple crunchy and sweet. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Single Vineyard Hua Nui is richly fruited with plenty of substance and phenolic grip. It shows succulent red fruit and notes of tea leaf, while the 33% whole bunch lends herbal lift and creates a tug o' war of push/pull tension. The 2022 is a powerful yet harnessed style.

Following the concentrated 2021, the 2022 Pinot Noir Single Vineyard Hua Nui might have less guts and rich substance, but it remains silky and finely poised. It’s not a wine that you could ever call big in terms of volume, but it does have an innate structure. It possesses a fist of firm power sitting within a compact core, which may be a reflection of the influence of the importance of the Abel clone in this cuvée. Perfumed yet savory with black cherries and wild herbs meeting subtle oak-derived spices. This is a Sunday roast kinda Pinot.

2024 - Decanter World Wine Awards
Complex, savoury and spicy. Delivery hints of cumin, fennel and red fruits. Fine, chalky tannins supported by acidity and fruit.
Award: Silver - DWWA 2024
Winemakers Notes
100% of the fruit is from our organic vineyard, Hua Nui. The fruit is handpicked followed by a period of cold soak, wild fermentation and gentle pumpovers and plunging. The wine is pressed to French oak barrels for a period of 10 months, during which time it undergoes malolactic fermentation to soften the wine and add complexity. The blend comprised 50% Clone Abel, 34% of 115 and 16% of 667. New oak is 34%. Whole bunch portion is 33%. The wine was lightly fined and bottled unfiltered in March 2023
