Wow, from the first look at the opaque colour to the intensity on the nose and the rich generosity of the palate, you know you are on to something special here. It comes off old Barossa vines that were planted in 1865 and were then made with largely traditional methods. This was a very good year and it shows here. Dark licorice and ripe black fruits burst from the glass. The tannins are firm and the oak is well weighted. Deep and concentrated with a powerful layered mouthfeel that drives long to the extended finish.

A wonderful example of what old vines can offer and these date back to 1865, incredible stuff. The wine was matured in a mix of new and two-year-old oak. This is Barossa on steroids and fans of the style will absolutely adore it. This is inky maroon in colour, with notes of cassis, chocolate, mocha, spices, coffee beans, dried fruits, licorice, blueberries and chocolate mud cake. Love the plushness here. Seamless and sleek with a silky texture and tannins. The oak gives hints of vanilla and a touch of nutmeg. Really impressive length, this is delicious. This wine is exactly what it aims to be – a big, bold Barossa gem. Twelve to fifteen years of pleasure ahead, more if you can keep your hands off .
