Dalwhinnie Mesa Shiraz 2021

Dalwhinnie is one of those names that just carries weight, and this is the proof. Already a 96-pointer, a cool-climate Shiraz with structure, spice, and real staying power. This isn’t trying to impress, it just put's on it's shades and walks by.

Tasting Notes

Deep, dark purple in the glass, with lifted aromatics of violets, blood plum and black cherry layered with warm baking spices. The palate is powerful and expressive, built around dark fruit with notes of mocha, cinnamon and star anise. There’s a firm, mouth-coating tannin structure that gives it real shape, while subtle French oak sits quietly in the background. It’s got the structure to cellar comfortably for 10+ years, softening and evolving over time.

Product Highlights

If you’re trying to work out what makes a “good Shiraz” feel a bit better than the rest, this is a great example.

It’s still rich and full, plenty of dark fruit and that classic Shiraz warmth, but it’s not heavy or jammy. Everything feels a bit more put together. The fruit is cleaner, the spice is more subtle, and the finish lingers nicely rather than dropping off.

The time in barrel adds a bit of smoothness and softness, helping round everything out without taking over.

This is the kind of red you open when you want something with a bit more depth, whether that’s with dinner or just something that feels a little more considered in the glass.
