This Hawke's Bay Syrah is as mouthfilling and winter warming as the deep crimson color and luscious blackberry, ground pepper and chocolaty oak aromas suggest. But the acidity and fine tannin structure are there, too, suggesting that this polished, harmonious bottle will last the ages. It's still quite primary now, so hold a few more years if possible.

There’s ample fruit depth to this wine but there’s ample spice too, not to mention prettier, more floral elements. That dark, meaty, toasty, black cherry-plum aspect is the main driver though, and brings with it a twiggy, gently smoky side. Texture is both plush and sinewy at once; tannin comes in fruit-drenched ropes. It’s polished but it has more than a little brood. It has a long future ahead of it.
