Owned by the Malet Roquefort family of classed growth Château Gaffelière, this estate is at the eastern end of Saint-Emilion. The wine is juicy, bright with fresh black currant fruits and lush with a dense texture. The wine is of course still developing and should be ready from 2026. — Roger Voss

Antonio Galloni MW - Vinous

The 2019 Dame de Boüard, the estate's best Merlot, is a powerful, structured wine. There is plenty of potential here, but we will have to see where the 2019 ends up at the end of élevage. Today, the darker, more virile side of Merlot comes through in both the wine's dark flavor profile and incisive tannins.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 La Dame de Bouärd offers up notes of Morello cherries, preserved plums and fruitcake with hints of espresso, forest floor and dried Provence herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a sturdy foundation of chewy tannins and just enough freshness to support the generous baked berries flavors, finishing with a peppery kick.

Fragrant nose. Super-smooth texture, this has real energy and life, bright blue fruits, but then closes quite quickly and a chaky, wet-stone mineral element comes in and cleans the palate. Fruit and minerality need time to integrate. Pleasing texture, it's just the overall balance that's not there yet; the fruit needs to expand.
