Here's something truly impressive. A famous French born son-in-law of Australian wine royalty, and his much lauded Reserve red - it’s one of the best Cabernet blends on the Australian landscape. Painstakingly crafted, its nod to the classic Australian blends of old, with a soupçon of inspiration from the grand estates of Bordeaux, mark this as a timeless and all conquering red.

We've been massive followers of this wine for years, but in recent years, the winemaker has found a new high-water mark with his Saint-Émilion inspired Cabernet.

Since planting his the vineyard, on the terra rossa soils of Wrattonbully in 2004 (literally across the ditch from Brian Croser’s Whalebone vineyard), many of us in the wine trade have paid close attention to what the site would eventually yield.

Wrattonbully is located just a stone's throw north of Coonawarra itself, the two regions share much in common. The deep red soils, the same Bordelaise-esque maritime climate, and of course the ability to create Cabernet that is both impossibly fragrant and deeply structured. It’s the latter which stands Wrattonbully apart, and seems to be the driving force behind Terre a Terre laying stake here. If you know Xavier, you'll know that he is here for the long-haul.

What also elevates it from the local competition is an addition of 20 percent Cabernet Franc, adding even greater complexity to the traditional Cabernet Shiraz blend. It's already five years old, but still a baby with decades in the tank.

This wine is the real deal, a complete package of fruit complexity, power and structure that's well on the way to becoming an Australian icon. It is no surprise, then, that the wine media have fallen in love…

This Reserve Cabernet & Shiraz is an investment. You're getting decades of development and a chance to grow old together with one of Australia's best Cabernet blends.
