The Dalwhinnie vineyard in the Pyrenees is the highest and most remote. Planted in 1976 the vines are fully mature and produce some of the best in the country. Pepper and spice and all things nice, the warm days allow for full ripening whilst the cool nights make sure the balance of acid is just right.

Deep violet‑black in the glass, this wine unfurls with aromas of rich blackberry, liquorice, violet petal and dark mocha, backed by a whisper of white pepper. On the palate it is medium‑bodied yet commanding, delivering concentrated dark fruit, finely grained tannins and a mineral‑anchored finish with a lingering smoky cocoa and aniseed echo.

Jeni Port - Halliday Wine Companion
An assemblage of the best blocks from the Dalwhinnie original vineyard. Hand picked, vinified separately with some batches having 25% whole bunches included in ferment. Matured 20 months in French oak (30% new), followed by barrel selection and blending. Strikes a generous pose and colour. There's some pretty smart and attractive oak that is a big part of this wine's appeal. It contributes added gravitas, with wide-ranging influences from prominent spice to a toasty, smoky, mocha overlay. The ripe blackberry, plum, aniseed fruit loves it. Mouth-coating and long.

Erin Larkin - Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The Dalwhinnie Shiraz wines have a devoted following here in Australia, and the intensity of the midnight fruit in this 2018 Shiraz Moonambel answers that question for me. This is savory and dense, but there is a line of minerality and austerity in here that holds it all in check. It is black like the night and dotted with stars of flavor and texture throughout. There are notes of Champion Ruby tobacco, aniseed and blackberry essence.

Huon Hooke - The Real Review
Very deep, dark purple-black-red colour, with imposing aromas of oak and black fruits, preserved plums and berries. The wine is full-bodied and rich, with ample soft tannins that are gentle on the tongue, the flavours generous and earthy with eucalypt forest-floor tones and a long, long finish. There's a suggestion of volatile acidity through the wine that doesn't spoil it for me. A big and bountiful glass of shiraz.

2021 - Decanter World Wine Awards
Ripe black plum, clove and cardamom nose. A lovely redcurrant acidity livens the palate, with blueberry, milk chocolate, plum jam, minty oak and a hint of pepper. Award: Silver - DWWA 2021
