The main wine of the estate, the 2016 Chateau Lagrezette is 94% Malbec, with the balance a blend of Merlot and Tannat. After 18 months in 50% new oak, it offers up flamboyant aromas of vanilla, smoke and baking spices, but balances those with concentrated, intense notes of black cherries, plums and licorice. Not for the shy, this is a big, full-bodied brute of a wine, loaded with richly textured tannins and showing plenty of power and length on the finish.

A dark purple colour with prunes and raisins on the nose. It has a gorgeous, velvety texture, thick but elegant. Dry tannins underpinn heady rich fruit, it's almost like fruit liquer but has an elegance to it. A great food wine and one to share with friends - it's a big one!
