Vin de Constance, a MUST HAVE in any winelover's cellar
Dating back to 1685 and described as one of the world’s most beautiful wine estates, Klein Constantia is set amidst ancient trees on the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg, with views across False Bay.
The 146-hectare estate originally formed part of Constantia, the vast property established by the first governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, who chose the valley not only for its beauty, but also for its decomposed granite soils on slopes gently cooled by ocean breezes. The perfect location for cool climate wines, Klein Constantia produces some of South Africa’s top wines, including one of the world’s best natural sweet wines,
Vin de Constance.

Harvest 2013 started later than usual. The preceding winter and spring conditions were very cool, delaying budburst by up to 2 weeks. The ripening period was characterised by moderate daytime temperatures and cool nights. Coupled with dry summer conditions, all was optimal for flavour development and raisining of the Muscat de Frontignon.
In 2013 Bruno Prats and Hubert de Bouard became shareholders of Klein Constantia, bringing with them a wealth of experience and knowledge. They were particularly involved in facilitating the blending of various components of Vin de Constance, introducing new methodology which have now become a standard part of our process
Tasting notes
Bright and gold in appearance with aromas of citrus marmalade and frangipani abundant on the nose. The palate is full bodied and complex. A good sugar to fruit ratio combined with a great acidity ensures the wine is in balance. The wine concludes with a long, spicy and grippy finish.
