This is really glorious and refined, offering a polished and creamy texture. Complex aromas and flavors with cream, dried fruit and nuts. Medium body. Very beautiful. A refined and glorious 1977 now. Real deal.

Huon Hooke - The Real Review

In a half-bottle, and drinking at its peak at 35 years young. Licorice, aniseed, spices and touches of leather, blackberry and black olive as well as floral spirit notes. Good intensity and depth in the mouth, rich and not especially sweet, but beautifully balanced - with evident but in no way insistent tannins. Excellent. Still has quite a future in front of it.

Huon Hooke - The Real Review

There's a faintest whiff of cork taint hovering over this bottle, but it is still a delicious old port. Very mature, great flavour, sweet, slightly spirity, and long in the mouth. Mellow and fully mature. I can still score it close to gold, so delicious is it.

Very impressive colour. Claret sort of flavours (by no means one of the sweetest) but this bottle was not 100% clean on nose. Disappointing nose therefore combined with wonderful colour and great clarity of fruit on palate. Is this just in a middle aged sulk? Tannins still in evidence. Clearly a very fine wine but this bottle had a surly nose. Score: 18+/20

Pale transparent ruby. High toned and subtle orange peel and great freshness. Some treacle and beautifully ready. Hint of roses. Spirit but not too much. Great stuff! Score: 18.5/20

Pale ruby with an even paler rim. As soon as the cork was just half-pulled, the (admittedly small) room was filled with the aroma of candied rose petals. This is surely at its peak with the spirit just peeking through at the end after a luxuriously smooth texture. Medium sweetness and really quite delicate. Score: 17.5/20

Label says this is a silver jubilee (of the Queen) bottling, so long ago it doesn't have an alcohol level on the label. Pale ruby with a pale rim. Beautifully sweet and mellow with prunes and a hint of orange. Great time to drink it. Fresh finish. Score: 18/20
