Tasting Notes

A mid to dark mulberry colour with crimson hues. The nose exhibits a perfume of bay leaf, blueberries, dried sage, earth and dark chocolate. This wine is medium-bodied and elegantly sculptured with fresh acidity, rolling tannins and flavours of raspberries and blueberries, with a twinge of herbs on the finish. A wine that will cellar well for up to 15 years from bottling.

Product Highlights

This is Margaret River Cabernet with serious pedigree behind it.

Simpson Estate may not be a household name yet, but the winemaker certainly is. Clive Otto spent sixteen years at Vasse Felix, helping shape the legendary 2001 Heytesbury Cabernet before being named Australian Winemaker of the Year in 2005. He later went on to craft Bordeaux blends at Fraser Gallop that twice won Decanter’s International Trophy for Best Bordeaux Blend.

So yes, he knows his way around Cabernet.

The fruit comes from a prime Margaret River vineyard, close enough to the Indian Ocean to enjoy the long, even ripening Cabernet loves. It is the same kind of maritime influence that made Bordeaux famous, only with Margaret River’s unmistakable stamp.

Every parcel is hand-picked, carefully sorted, then matured for at least eighteen months in premium French oak, with around forty per cent new oak. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way, supported by Merlot and Malbec for depth, polish and structure.

This is a polished, serious Margaret River Cabernet from a winemaker with a world-class track record. No shortcuts, no fuss - just very good Cabernet at a very sharp price.
