Sweetly ripe with savoury nuances, the fragrant bouquet shows dark berry, dried herb, game, clove, and nutmeg aromas, leading to a silky-smooth palate that's juicy and flowing. Finely textured and supple, it's splendidly structured by fine-grained tannins, making it sturdy yet velvety with a lengthy, satisfying finish.

From the Mappinga and Ironstone vineyards. Fermented on wild yeasts, a little whole bunch and whole berry, matured in large format French oak for eight months. Abundant perfume, red cherry, red apple, alpine herbs and bay. It is immediately juicy, the brightness of fruit a pleasant juxtaposition with stalky, bunchy notes. Tension here, but elegance, too, with umami elements – truffle, cured meat – providing optimal savoury balance.

Sidewood, with a bit of wood on the side, though not too much in these wines. They are nicely turned out. Red cherry, strawberry, spice, a slight red capsicum and herbal edge. It’s light and spicy, a little sappy with some slightly tart sour cherry flavours, a fine powdery grip to tannin, with a finish of solid length. It’s an enjoyable wine, kind of frisky, but not overdone in anyway.
