Tasting Notes

Originally an elegant, feather-light 10.5% ABV white, it has developed extraordinary fleshiness and concentration on the mid-palate. It feels more voluminous and satiny without having lost its hallmark finesse. The "racy engine" of acidity that defined the 2016 vintage remains intact. It drives a remarkably long, powerful, mineral-driven finish that smacks the palate with lasting freshness.

Product Highlights

Great Hunter Semillon rewards patience. Pepper Tree’s museum-release Alluvius 2016 offers the pleasure of a decade’s development, without another ten years of watching the cellar.

Alluvius takes its name from the well-drained alluvial soils that help shape this distinctive Australian style. Its story is closely tied to the celebrated Braemore Vineyard on Hermitage Road in the lower Hunter Valley, where vines planted in the late 1960s have built an enviable reputation for Semillon.

The 2016 combines lemon-and-lime freshness with a fuller, silkier palate developed through time. There’s greater depth and texture now, while bright acidity keeps everything precise and carries a long, mineral finish. At just 10.5% alcohol, it delivers remarkable presence with a light touch.

This is the appeal of mature Hunter Semillon: freshness and complexity sharing the same glass. A bottle to open slowly, follow as it unfolds, and give the attention it deserves.
