The flavours, the savouriness and the feel of this wine are all appealing. Lots of detail with nothing overt. The palate lends itself to cocoa-powder tannins, the oak is integrated and there's a depth of flavour. It comes out as a complete wine.

Delicious. 2018 puts this wine in such a spectacular place. And it is a good idea to taste this before you buy the Armagh, for they are possessed of the same purity of red fruit at their cores. This 2018 The McRae Wood Shiraz is lighter in frame and not as long as the Armagh, but it offers an excellent, value-for-money, dignified cellaring option. Sensational wine here. (Or you could just drink it, because it's delicious now, too.)

Sometimes I taste a wine and think ‘Ah, this will elicit the appropriate oohs and ahhs from a certain type of red wine drinker who enjoys a bold red with a juicy cut of red meat.’ It’s not a judgement on wine style, as such, more a matter-of-fact sort of thing. Blackberry pie, sage and mint, with toasty mocha and coconut oak. Full-bodied, toasty and savoury, packed with plush dark fruit, though not short on perfume, a welcome mat of dense chewy tannin, plenty of oak and fruit and moderate freshness, with a dry finish of good length, and glimmers of red fruit.
