Opulent, graceful, and complex, the wine showcases dark-fruit richness, cake spice, smoked meat, vanilla, and cedar on the nose, with a hint of cocoa. It’s concentrated and deeply flavoured on the palate with a richly textured mouthfeel and loads of fine-grained tannins, making it multi-layered and splendidly structured with a sustained, sumptuous finish.

Russ Gallagher - Vino Masters

Dense crimson with an inky core and youthful violet edges. The nose shows blackberry, dark plum and blueberry compote with notes of cocoa, roasted coffee bean and sweet baking spice. Rich and full-bodied, the palate displays impressive concentration. Ripe blackberry and plum flow across a plush texture supported bt velvety tannins and lively acidity. Hints of dark chocolate, spice and savoury earthiness add complexity, while oak contribute structure and polish. The finish is long and generous with lingering dark fruit, coconut, vanilla and gentle spice. Ray Jordan - Winepilot

The Twisted Trunk refers to the old vines that were planted in 1865, and to this day produce excellent, though tiny quantities of Shiraz. This one was made in pretty traditional ways with open fermentation, hand plunging, and then basket pressing. It’s all contributed to bringing out the generous and full, rich flavours, albeit to present with elegance and refinement. Rich plummy blackberry flavours. Touch of coffee grind and mocha. And some lovely spices and herbs. Sits so comfortably together now, but it does have plenty of cellaring potential.

Tony Love - Winepilot

Harvested from Glen Eldon’s estate owned vineyards in the Krondorf district of the Barossa Valley, planted reportedly in 1865. There’s a reserved, old-vine charm about this wine, traditionally made, cleverly soaking in both new and seasoned oak maturation so it sits comfortably within the fruit which has a delicious thread of crimson plum flavour and a backdrop of baking spices, all delicately woven and finished. Nothing hard or brash about this, and rather a quiet confidence and sophisticated energy that is a pleasure to behold.
