The Collective Review

This is the one you’ve been waiting for. The real deal. A true artisan Yarra Pinot from one of those exalted names spoken by those in the know and those with a deep desire for this country’s finest Pinot producers.

We have been chasing this special wine for a while, and when you taste it, you’ll understand why. It’s rarely seen outside its native Victoria, where it is listed on the best restaurant wine lists and always sells out. Names like Attica, Vue du Monde, and other blue-chip dining institutions regularly feature this wine.

This mystery producer does not have a winemaking dynasty stretching back generations, but they have the enthusiasm and know-how to create evocative wines that speak of place. Think young gun ready to usurp the crown from the very best. The winemaking is hands-off, but the intuition of what makes a good wine is hands-on, and the results are dazzling.

As far as Yarra Valley vineyards go, you could call this single-vineyard 'Grand Cru' territory - with the fruit sourced from the famed Willowlake Vineyard, famed for being a regular source of Oakridge 864, alongside A. Rodda, Precipice, De Bortoli and others, who've helped elevate the status of this northern Gladysdale site.

Rose petals, cherry essence, blackberry bush, forest, and mushroom consommé all evoke a sense of beguiling Pinosity—a twee word, we know, but when you dive into this pale, blushing glass, you’ll understand why. It’s such a divine thing. Tissue-like tannins, a crunch of earth, a hint of tonka from the cooperage—it’s all there.

At the cellar door and across the country, you’ll pay anywhere between $45 to nearly three digits on top wine lists. As a mystery TWC offer and a celebration of the inaugural wine we are selling from this Pinot dark horse, it can be yours for much less.

This is it. The Pinot deal we’ve all been waiting for. Don’t miss the chance.

Huon Hooke - The Real Review

A lighter colour of good hue. Pot-pourri, toasty barrels and chocolate to sniff, indicating generous oak treatment. Overtones of roasting meats and the wine is elegant and medium weighted in the mouth, with light fine-grained tannins, lovely fruit-sweetness and good balance. Delicious pinot. Don't be misled by the lighter colour

Winemakers Note

This wine is made from fruit grown at a select site on the Willowlake Vineyard in Gladysdale. Fruit is handpicked and brought into the winery. A portion of whole bunches and whole berries are left to cold soak in an open pot, then left to ferment naturally over a 14 day period, being foot stomped and hand plunged twice daily during this time. Once dry, the ferments are gently pressed to a mixture of new and old French oak barrels. Matured on lees for 10 months, the wine was carefully racked before bottling. It was not fined or filtered.
