Fonterutoli is nestled near Siena on the hills overlooking the Val d’Elsa, right in the heart of Chianti Classico. Owned by the Mazzei family since 1435, Castello Fonterutoli champions local grape varieties that truly embody the essence of their land, all while honouring nature and its diversity. The vineyards span 110 hectares, divided into 144 individual parcels, with altitudes ranging from 220m to 570m. This densely planted estate yields very limited quantities of top-quality grapes, resulting in full-bodied wines that are well-structured, balanced, and refreshingly vibrant.

The first vintage of Concerto was crafted in 1981, just as the Super-Tuscan movement was gaining momentum. Recognizing the potential of their land, the Mazzei family began planting non-indigenous grape varieties and experimenting with innovative training systems and blends. Produced only in exceptional years, Concerto has become a standout in the Super-Tuscans phenomenon.

Grapes are sourced from Fonterutoli and Siepi vineyard, the latter being the estate’s prestigious Sangiovese and Merlot blend. Both vineyards are based on decomposed limestone and sandstone and planted with vines between 15 to 30 years old. A blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.
